There are “alien plants” and “alien invader plants”. Not all plants that are referred to as alien, or exotic, are harmful. On the other hand, alien invader plants pose a serious threat to South Africa’s biodiversity, to our ecology and to our economy.
This is no joke. Alien invader plants not only affect our wildlife, they affect our water supplies, our food chain, our arable areas, our grazing lands, our protected environments like forests and grasslands, and our rivers.
It is illegal to grow or harbour alien invader plants in your garden.
