“ANIMALS OF THE ROCKY SHORES” is an invaluable companion to “THE BEACH BOOK” by the late Jerry Gosnell.

The following five tidal zones and the animals they harbour are beautifully described:
Sub-tidal Zone : the area permanently under water
Lower Balanoid Zone : exposure only at low spring tides
Upper Balanoid Zone : exposure twice a day – at low and high tides
Oyster Zone : area only covered with water during high spring tides
Littorinid Zone : the area only reached by exceptionally high tides
An excellent Glossary is provided as well as an Index of common and scientific name
